Yoga Teacher Certification with The Lab Yoga Studio

In April 2022 I completed a 200-hour teacher certification program through The Lab Yoga Studio, certified by The Yoga Alliance. The Yoga Alliance is an organization that sets standards for yoga professionals and teacher training programs around the world. This particular program tapped into each individual strengths, and coaches each person to find their full potential as a professional, guide, and yogi.

The tools of yoga, mindfulness, and group camaraderie lead to a sense of much-needed community. In addition to my two main teachers, I worked with teachers who focused on advanced yoga poses, yogic philosophy, anatomy, meditation, diversity & inclusion, leadership, yin yoga, community building, and self-marketing.

In my time training to be a yoga teacher, the work has helped to improve my soft skills. Every class has to balance the needs of a group with individual attention, to deepen their practice and prevent injury. I create an environment where people feel safe and ready to dive deeper into what they are working on. I believe this training directly translates into my future goals to be a people manager and mentor.

Learning more about yoga as an internal practice, I see how it can help manage stress in a workplace, maintain a positive environment, encourage active listening, promote diversity and inclusion, and improve employee productivity. The yogic philosophy of mindfulness behind physical poses specifically encourages people to improve skills gradually through daily work. One does not improve by burning out working 24/7 or competing with others; instead, they improve by focusing on growth and making conscious and responsible choices.

Mindfulness in the Workplace

To further illustrate the connection between my yoga teacher training experience and my ay--to-day work environment, I created and presented my findings on how mindfulness can help to manage stress in the workplace, maintain a positive environment, create fulfilling and happy relationships, promote diversity and inclusion, and improve productivity.

Following the presentation, I also led the company in a 15-minute guided meditation once a month, to illustrate one of the many tools people could start incorporating into their daily routine to make their workdays more productive and bright.
